Project Manager resume keywords and bullet examples
Project manager resumes are screened for scope, budget and delivery. Recruiters search for terms like Agile, risk management, stakeholders and PMP, then look for the size of what you ran: how many people, how much money, how long, and whether it landed on time.
Keywords recruiters search for
These are the terms that come up most in project manager job postings. Use the ones that describe work you've really done, in your skills section and inside your bullets:
- Project management
- Stakeholders
- Scope
- Budget management
- Risk management
- Scheduling
- Agile
- Waterfall
- PMP
- Jira
- Asana
- Resource planning
- Cross-functional teams
- Status reporting
- Vendor management
Every posting is a little different. Paste the one you're applying for into the free ATS checker to see exactly which of its keywords your resume is missing.

Kept a weekly risk log that flagged a vendor delay 6 weeks early and saved the launch date
Sent status updates
Ran weekly status reports for 3 executive sponsors and cut status meeting time by half
Used Jira
Moved a 20-person team from spreadsheets to Jira, with sprint boards and dashboards
Examples only. Use the numbers and tools that are true for you.
Sample project manager resume summary
PMP-certified project manager with 6 years running software and infrastructure projects up to $2M. Delivered 14 of 15 projects on schedule across teams of up to 25 people.
Mistakes that get project manager resumes skipped
- No numbers for size. Budget, headcount and timeline tell a recruiter what level you work at.
- Writing the methodology without results: “Used Agile” says less than “shipped every two weeks for a year”.
- Hiding your certification. If you have a PMP or CAPM, put it in your summary and your certifications section.
- Two columns, tables or icons. Applicant tracking software can read them out of order, so keep one column and standard headings.
Questions
Is a PMP required for project manager jobs?
Not always. Many postings list it as preferred. If you don't have it, show the same skills through results: budgets, schedules and teams you've managed.
Should I list Agile and Waterfall?
List the ones you've really used, and say where. Match the posting: if it asks for Scrum, use the word Scrum.
